Hillary Quella became interested in photography at a very early age. She holds a BFA in both Fine Art and Art Education from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, and an MFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. In passionate pursuit of further knowledge, Quella has also studied at the University of Valladolid, Spain, and with notable photographers such as Jerry Uelsmann, Phil Borges, and Jim Richardson. Though Quella is a recent MFA recipient, she has already participated in prominent shows and exhibited extensively in group exhibitions across the country. Quella’s work and commissions are held in private collections. She has been the recipient of an Educational Research Grant (Photography Documentary of the Hutterites), and a Fulbright specifically for teachers from the Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund. Having a curiosity of the world and its cultures has taken Hillary to remote villages in Peru, to China, and Lhasa, the spiritual center of Tibet. Past personal projects have shown the indigenous cultures of Peru as well as the beauty of Tibet amidst a controlling Chinese government. Quella is also fascinated with the worldwide fervor and adoration awarded to the Virgin Mary, and intends to photograph the appearances of Mary in common and not so common places as a life long project. Currently, Quella’s work explores spirituality and questioning the unknown. Click here to download CV. |
